Avira as suggested above is probably the best rated free antivirus' while Avast is also very good. Avira has a *slightly* better detection rate, but Avast has email scanning and the ability to do a boot -time scan and Avira doesn't. So they're both good, but choose only one.

I personally use and recommend Avast, as Avira has given me auto-update problems. But this doesn't happen to everyone, so if you choose Avira, keep an eye on it ;-)

AVG antivirus is for newbs and those who don't want to be bothered with a *real* antivirus. I won't even give a link for it.
